The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) has established guidelines for the maintenance of rolling stock brake systems, including air and manual brakes. These guidelines outline the requirements for inspecting, testing and maintaining brake components, as well as the procedures for repairing or replacing them as needed.
Central Maintenance and Welding adhere to these guidelines, as external contractors to Aurizon. We specialise in the maintenance, repair, and rebuilding of rolling stock brake components, both air and manual.

Air Reservoirs
Air reservoirs are an essential component of Aurizon’s rolling stock braking systems, responsible for storing compressed air used to activate the brake system. To ensure the continued safe and reliable operation of rolling stock, air reservoirs must be properly maintained, repaired and refurbished as necessary.
Our skilled technicians are experienced in hydrostatic testing to verify the integrity of the vessel, verifying it can safely withstand the operating pressures, ensuring that your air reservoirs are maintained at optimal condition, free from wear, damage or corrosion. We use advanced equipment and technology to ensure precision and accuracy in all our work, and we maintain strict compliance with all safety and regulatory standards.
As a preferred supplier to Aurizon, we have the necessary permissions to undertake recertification of air reservoirs and reissue serial numbers as necessary to refurbished tanks.
Coal Wagon Doors
We are adept at the repair and manufacture of a variety of Coal Wagon doors The most notable one being the “106 tonne” coal wagon door which is a critical component of coal trains used in the mining industry.
Due to the heavy loads carried by these wagons, the door must be strong and durable enough to withstand constant use and heavy impacts. That’s why the door needs to be specifically designed and fabricated for its intended purpose using high-strength aluminium.
